Disability Benefits

COULD YOU BE ENTITLED TO ATTENDANCE ALLOWANCE

If you are aged 66 or over and  have a physical or mental illness or disability which makes it difficult to care for yourself you may be entitled to Attendance Allowance.

Attendance allowance is a non means tested tax free benefit and so therefore will not  affect your pension or any other benefits that you are in receipt of and could lead to an increase in other benefits. It is not affected by the amount of savings or investments you may have.

You could receive either £61.85 or £92.40 per week depending on the level of care you might need. You do not have to be getting  help or care from someone in order to qualify.

You are likely to qualify for the benefit if you have a physical disability (including sensory disability, for example hearing loss), a mental disability (including learning difficulties), or both that makes it difficult  for you to look after yourself or manage at home.

Before you make a claim you should have had your illness or disability for at least 6 months (unless you’re terminally ill).
